![]() ![]() The Private Eye (New Talent Showcase #19, 1985) So today, I’m writing about four Darwyn Cooke stories you should check out if you’re mostly familiar with his work in “New Frontier” or Parker, or if you’re not familiar with his work at all. Everything Cooke touched was gold, from long-form OGNs to his numerous covers. He released four volumes of a series of graphic novels adapting the classic noir Parker novels by Donald Westlake before his untimely passing, some of the best crime comics ever published. From there he penciled a run on “Catwoman” written by Ed Brubaker, then published one of his masterpieces: “DC: The New Frontier,” a retelling of the origins of the Silver Age of DC Comics set in the time the comics were published, and with a socially accurate world.Ĭooke continued to draw accolades and awards, working for a few publishers, most notably DC and IDW. ![]() I fell in love with his work on “Batman: Ego,” a one-shot that featured a trip into the psyche of Batman. Three years ago last week, cartoonist Darwyn Cooke passed away. By MATTHEW LAZORWITZ, WMQ Comics senior contributor ![]()
